Abernathy roof rehabilitation (Recovery Act project)

This image shows a portion of the roof replacement work on the Main Hatchery building at Abernathy Fish Technology Center. The old metal roof dated back to 1961 and had significant structural failings and presented an immediate hazard for facility staff. In addition to roof replacement and structural upgrades, the $556,479 in Recovery Act funding was also used to replace hatchery building lights, three sets of double main doors, and provide the structure seismic tie down supports. The work was completed in November, 2010.

Little White Salmon walkways (Recovery Act)

Little White Salmon walkways (Recovery Act)

These new metal walkways on the lower raceways at the Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery were designed and constructed using $29,665 in Recovery Act funding. The old concrete walkways were very narrow, posing an employee workplace safety hazard in violation of minimum Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) standards. In addition to the narrowness of the old walkways, the concrete surface regularly became slick when wet or covered with residual fish food. The work was completed using December 2009.
